Bulls injury update against the 76ers: Denzel Valentine (ankle) will not play tonight. Cristiano Felício (ankle) felt good in practice and if he continues to, he will be in uniform tonight. Lauri Markkanen (elbow) and Omer Asik (inflammatory arthritis) are also out.

Fred Hoiberg says Kris Dunn is excused for tonight's game against the 76ers for a "personal matter." Cam Payne will start in his place. The incident causing Dunn's absence occurred yesterday (Wednesday). Hoiberg said it's too early to determine whether Dunn will return for Saturday's game.

Fred Hoiberg explains why he chose to stick with Portis, Dunn, Carter, LaVine and Holiday — not Parker — as his starting line up against Philadelphia: "In the preseason, I thought we played our best game against Indiana, or certainly our most complete game defensively, it was our best effort. We had three good defensive quarters against Denver. Now, going on the road against one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference — very powerful team that's got a couple players that are unlike any other in this league in their home opener — it's going to be a great challenge for us, but just the way we went out early and competed (in the preseason games), I like the way it looked. We got Jabari going a little bit in that last game, running some different things with him as the facilitator, so I just like the look of it and that's most likely how we're going to start tomorrow."

Agent: Portis, Bulls fail to reach extension

Chicago Bulls forward Bobby Portis will likely become a restricted free agency in July, failing to reach a rookie contract extension before the Monday afternoon deadline, agent Mark Bartelstein told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Zach LaVine on Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins' work ethic: Kat (Towns) and Wigs (Wiggins) are some of my good friends. Wigs just had his newborn baby and congratulations to him on that. And Kat is a really laid back dude, but they are extremely competitive at the same time. They work hard. I feel like they are getting some flack in the media because some people are saying they don't work hard. People in the organization are saying that. But I think they are extremely hard workers. Whenever I am in the gym, they are too. I have seen Wigs go back late night after games that he didn't play well and go get shots up too. So, I think they are proven players in the NBA for sure. I think they will be just fine."

I asked Zach LaVine if he is paying attention to the events unfolding with his former team in Minnesota. He said: "I feel like everybody is paying attention to it at some point because it goes across your ticker so much right now. But they are in a situation, I feel like that is professional sports though. You get hit with adversity. They are dealing with it the way they feel is best."
