As scores skyrocket across the NBA in the season's first week, at least one defense-minded player has taken notice. "We got to be smarter," Draymond Green said. "... Clean up our defense, stop using our hands as much, stop reaching."

Denver Nuggets coach Mike Malone used to coach DeMarcus Cousins in Sacramento. It's clear that he still has a lot of respect for the All-Star center. "DeMarcus Cousins, I think, is very misunderstood," Malone said before Sunday's game against the Golden State Warriors. "And those that know him know one how smart he is and how competitive he is and how much he wants to win. He was a guy when the jump ball went up I never had to worry if Demarcus was going to be ready to play. My challenge with him was trying to get him to just be the best version of himself. And I think there was a lot of growth in my time with him. And even though I'm not coaching him anymore for DeMarcus and his family there's nothing but love between me and him."
